Self-Drive Travel
The Lowveld is best explored by car, allowing you the freedom to visit nearby attractions, scenic viewpoints and national parks on your own schedule.
We recommend hiring a vehicle ideally an SUV or a car with higher ground clearance as some regional roads are gravel or uneven.

Self-drive travel offers flexibility and is the preferred option for most guests visiting the Panorama Route, Kruger National Park and surrounding experiences.
Ride Services & Private Transfers
Ride-hailing services such as Uber and Bolt operate in larger towns like Nelspruit (Mbombela) but availability may be limited in more rural areas.

Private transfers are a comfortable alternative for airport arrivals, day trips and guided experiences.
I however would like to mention that this option is more expensive and will most likely cost more than the self-drive option

Transport in Major Cities
In South Africa’s major cities such as Cape Town and Johannesburg, ride-hailing services like Uber and Bolt are widely available. These services provide a convenient and affordable way to travel between restaurants, attractions and shopping areas. They also know which routes are safer to take
Exploring Smaller Towns
When travelling to smaller towns and rural regions, we recommend hiring a vehicle ideally an SUV or a car with higher ground clearance. Road conditions can vary, and some scenic routes include gravel roads or potholes.
A suitable vehicle ensures a more comfortable journey and allows the flexibility to explore the region at your own pace.

For safety and comfort, we recommend limiting long-distance driving after dark, particularly outside major towns, as rural roads may be poorly lit.
Public Transportation
Public transport is available in certain urban areas; however, it is generally not the most reliable or convenient option for international visitors. Routes can be limited, services may be inconsistent, and navigating the system without local knowledge can be challenging.
Most guests choose a combination of private transfers, guided transport or self-drive travel for a seamless experience.
